Apple Pencil will be compatible with Apple Vision Pro

The Vision Pro is the latest sensation from Apple. Without knowing what the brand will present this year on artificial intelligence, mixed reality glasses offer a wide range of possibilities without the space limitations of traditional screens. If to watch a movie or to work, the Vision Pro is an explosion before your eyes, painting could be a revolution if Apple were to combine these glasses with its Apple Pencil. MacRumors points out that Apple would be testing the compatibility of this electronic pen with its new augmented reality glasses. A source familiar with the matter confirms this intention. This is still an idea in development with no guarantees that it will materialize this year.

Apple presented a new smart pencil for its tablets in October 2023, for 95 euros in Spain. This year it is expected to renew its iPads, but the idea of fusing the more creative quality of its tablets with its glasses would be a revolution perhaps more interesting for artists than the renewal of its classic products.  The proposal proposes a more comfortable way to create projects on an invisible whiteboard. For artistic creations or large studies, imagine being able to draw in the air. The Apple Pencil would serve as a brush for drawing applications on the Vision Pro, such as Freeform and Pixelmator. The user would be surrounded by a large canvas of almost infinite proportions where they could capture their creations or where they could reflect mathematical calculations, for example. The idea, however, presents certain challenges when it comes to transforming paper or the iPad into air.

Apple must find a way to recognize the correct stroke pressure and inclination to apply the specific detail in the image with the different drawing tools that these applications offer, whether it is a fine brush or a charcoal pencil. Furthermore, another challenge may be the conversion of that 3D work to paper if it were to materialize, although it will most likely be used for scenes that can only be consumed with augmented or virtual reality glasses.

The company already proposes a similar combination with other peripherals or equipment such as its computers and keyboards, to expand the work screen in front of the eyes. The function of typing in the air without a physical keyboard has not received the best reviews, but with a real model and the use of gestures, the large screens are one of the main attractions of this new Cupertino product. As has happened with previous Apple projects, the most recent example being the brand’s electric car, there are no guarantees that this idea will reach the market. It would be just one of the many improvements that the company is considering to expand the list of experiences and possibilities offered by its Vision Pro.

New technology companies have revolutionized the lives of millions of people, to the point of redefining the world with smartphones, computers, 3D glasses or augmented reality. It seems that the new Apple Pencil line will be compatible with another revolutionary device: the Apple Vision Pro.

Apple’s impact on technology is a narrative that always gives something to talk about. According to Statista, although the iPhone remains Apple’s flagship product, the company’s drive also encompasses hardware systems, software, and other services that have contributed to the company’s revenue, in 2023, more than 383 billion dollars, making Apple the most valuable brand in the world.

In this regard, the Apple Pencil is one of the inseparable accessories of the first-generation iPad, but now it will become a tool compatible with the entire range of products available. Apple has its sights set on the future of its stylus, and they want to make it compatible with a very different product than the iPad.

Apple Pencil will be compatible with Apple Vision Pro

The idea of providing the Vision Pro with support for the Apple Pencil is related to a new version of the stylus compatible with visionOS, which would allow its use with applications run from the mixed reality viewer.

One of the possible uses of the Apple Pencil in the Apple Vision Pro would be to be able to use drawing tools, in addition to the fact that it will be possible to use the digital pencil to draw on any flat surface and have your creations appear in real time in the app window in execution.

Likewise, what has attracted attention, apart from the launch of a renewed Apple Pencil model, is that it could become the first accessory to expand the controls of the Vision Pro. With these devices it would be possible to make everything that surrounds one person, has the possibility of becoming a giant canvas, in addition to having the sensors generate pressure and inclination points.

Likewise, perhaps it may be that the Apple Pencil of the future will only have the ability to replicate the same functions as on an iPad, but in a significantly larger environment and with augmented reality.

For now, we have to wait a while longer, until Apple launches the new Pencil model, along with the new iPad models, which are expected in April. However, they explain that they have not been able to confirm whether this next model will be compatible with visionOS.

As for the 2024 Apple Pencil, it has already confirmed that it will require updated software. In case this development is not canceled, it could be used to help designers, artists, painters, illustrators. But everything will have to be approved by Tim Cook, Apple’s mastermind.

An example of the versatility and this type of device is that the Logitech company launched a  similar stylus , but as a cheaper alternative to the apple brand. The Logitech Crayon is a more affordable stylus, with the same functions as the Apple version. The Logitech version allows users to have creative functions for education, in addition to having a physical keyboard as an alternative to the Apple firm’s Smart Keyboard that costs $149.
